Holy Days of Jainism

Mahavira Jayanti- This takes place in March or April. It celebrates the birth of Mahavira. They have parades and read the teachings of Mahavira.

 Paryushana- This holiday takes place in August or September. During this time they have to stay in one place, the word Paryushana means 'stay in one place'.

Divali- This takes place during October or November to celebrate the last teaching of Mahavira. Children get sweets and lay lights in paper all over India.

Kartak Purnima- This holiday takes place in the October or November time as well. This is a time where Jains make pilgirmages to sacred Jainism places.

Mauna Agyaras- This holiday takes place in the November or December time. This is a day of fasting, silence, and meditating. 

Jainisms' Founder

Jainism is most commonly said to have been found by Vardhamana Mahavira. He lived around the same time as the founder of Buddhism. Some Jains beileve he is only a teacher and that the religion started further back in history. He is said to be the twenty fourth teacher of Jainism and also the last.
